Ok, I admit it.  I am a geek.  I bought my first Macintosh SE in 1987 with my student loan money.  It cost me $3,250.  That's like $7K today!  Imagine paying that kind of money for a machine that had a 20MB hard drive and 1MB of RAM.  But it changed my life.  I fell in love with that little machine, with simple terms like cut/copy/paste, and WYSIWYG screens and fonts other than that crappy courier p.o.s.  Since then, I have always tinkered with computers, software, and databases.  So you might think I majored in computer science. But I didn't.  I studied geology, then went to business school, and then went back to school (I loved wearing backpacks and flip flops) and got one of those really granola/earthy degrees from Duke: environmental management! 

What I have been trying to do most of my professional life is to find ways to improve data collection, analysis, and presentation methods in the industry I happen to work in: environmental sciences.  I love my work, and I sincerely believe that we at Terraine are onto something good here, with apps like ezCoC that challenge the traditional way of preparing chain of custody forms.  These types of apps, I believe, have a chance at changing our industry for the better.

Karen Baer - Lead Marketer

In 2003, the geek up above me brought me on board to manage various environmental projects requiring extensive groundwater, surface water, and soil sampling for the federal, state, and commercial sectors.  In more recent months, I have been on the trade show circuit, exhibiting ezCoC at multiple conferences across the United States as well as blogging and tweeting about stuff you might find helpful.

If I HAD spare time, I'd probably enjoy reading, watching movies, gardening, yard-saling, and buying abandoned storage units (big fan of Storage Wars).

Chris Hollinger - Lead Field Tester (aka "The Bug Hunter")

I started working for Terraine a couple of years ago, primarly conducting investigations at former underground storage tank sites. I probably submitted over 200 paper chain of custody forms during that contract.  Thank God that's over. 

Now, during this beta-test phase, I get to beat the pucky out of our electronic chain of custody system, ezCoC.  In real life sampling situations, I determine what works, what doesn't, and what improvements we could make to our site to make your life easier. 

In my spare time, I enjoy reading about and looking for bugs (the kind with legs) and visiting random (and just plain weird) places, like South of the Border.

Jennifer Porterfield - Technical Support Manager

In 2008, I was rescued from the life of call center drone to begin  working for Terraine as a technical editor. At first, my responsibilities included editing and producing environmental reports, assisting with accounts payable, and general administrative duties. As Terraine began to evolve into a more technology-oriented company, my role began to change, as well. These days, you're mostly likely to find me spending my time on SEO; maintaining Terraine’s three websites (terraine.com, myadesso.com, and ezcoc.com); and providing technical support to our clients.

I graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2005 with a BA in English, and I have taken coursework pursuant to a degree in Web Technologies. I'm a married mother of two daughters, two tabby cats, and a Boglen puppy. Aside from spending time with my family and pets, I enjoy reading; writing freaking amazing fantasy novels (shameless plug); and watching, but clearly not imitating, Modern Family.
